Apex Fun Run

Despite the heat, students enjoyed running up to 36 laps (about 2 miles) last Thursday.  Some ran more, some ran less.  We had plenty of water for them and they enjoyed getting sprayed by Ms. Crowley.  We reached our goal of $30 per lap (thanks to parents, families, and friends), so we got to pie Super Fly Ty in the face with shaving cream.

Please Help Our Class for the Annual Apex Fun Run

Dear Parents,

I am so excited to tell you about the Apex Fun Run event that will be at our school for the next two weeks!  The Apex program teaches leadership and fitness to our students who are raising pledges for the Fun Run next Thursday the 18th.

This year’s character theme is Apex Legends, where students will follow Tikes, Seeds, Specs, Jazz, and Wheels through the pages of their legendary adventure to discover JJ Cortez’s hidden treasure. Along the way these five friends discover what it truly means to be a Legendary leader:

  • Learn
  • Engage
  • Give
  • Empower
  • Never Quit
  • Do

Students are raising pledges for the laps they run (between 26 and 36, 36-lap max).  Each lap is 1/16th of a mile.  For instance, $1 per lap means $30 dollars total pledged if the student runs 30 laps.  Our class has a goal of reaching $3 per lap for each student, or $90 simple donations.

Here’s the important part!  The majority of the funds raised this year will go to our school to pay for classroom materials, general school improvements, etc.  However, the school has promised that an additional 10% of whatever we raise in each class goes directly to that teacher to use in their own classroom  My goal is to raise $100/lap, enough money to buy more higher level reading books for our classroom library!

 

Please help us reach our goal by talking to family and friends about pledging for your students. A great way to do this is to use the “Share Wizard” found on your students pledge page.  It’s super easy.  The Share Wizard is an awesome tool that allows you to send texts, emails and share posts on Facebook and Twitter to help your child get sponsors for the fun run.

Great First Day Back!

The students gave me a very happy welcome back to school.  We had a great day getting to know one another!  We will miss Alex who is leaving to another school.

Students have five very important papers to give you today:  our annual Apex Fun Run fundraiser lanyard (with all pertinent information to make pledges on line), an informational letter about our classroom, permission slip to post pictures of students on our class blog, permission slip to see certain PG movies in class, and Hedenkamp’s Code of Conduct to review with your child.

Box Tops help us earn money for our school!

Last school year, our school site raised almost $1,000 in Box tops. Our Student council used that money to purchase playground equipment as well as educational supplies for classrooms.  WAY TO GO HEDENKAMP!!!:)

Help us out this year by looking for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of participating products. Each is worth 10 cents and some are even worth more. Start clipping, collecting, and  turning them to myself or Mrs. Mazalewski in room 704. They can also be dropped of at the front office.
